01042026 JTFD Media Release (Commercial fire).docx (2)At approximately 8:38 a.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2026, Jackson Township Fire Department, Stark County, Ohio crews responded to reports of smoke coming from a commercial building in the 7800 block of Freedom Avenue NW.
Upon arrival, crews found smoke and fire showing from the roof.
Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack but soon transitioned to defensive operations due to structural instability.
The businesses were unoccupied at the time of the incident. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. Damage estimates have not been determined. The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
Jackson Township responded with one Medic Unit, three Engines, Tower 1, Chief 1, Deputy Chief 2, Deputy Chief 3, Battalion Chief, Safety Officer, two Fire Investigators, and a Public Information Officer. Mutual aid was provided by Green Fire Department, Plain Township Fire & Rescue-Stark County, Ohio, North Canton Fire Department-Ohio, along with the Jackson Township Police Department, Stark County, Ohio and Jackson Township Public Works Department.
