Permit Requirements
The Jackson Township Fire Department requires permits for the following items:
Underground Fire Mains
Automatic Sprinkler Systems
Fire Alarm and Detection Systems
Kitchen Suppression Systems
Automatic Fire Suppression Systems
Indoor Vehicle Display (in a commercial business, except car dealerships)
Flammable Liquids Above Ground Storage Tanks
Delayed, Egress locks/doors or electromagnetically locked Systems
Carbon Dioxide Systems for beverage dispensing when exceeding 100 pounds
Commercial Cooking oil Storage when exceeding 60 gallons
Temporary Tents and Membrane Structures exceeding 400 square feet used on commercial property are handled through the zoning department
Ohio Fire Code-Jackson Township Fire Department
105.1.1 Permits required. A property owner or owner’s authorized agent who intends to conduct an operation or business, or install or modify systems and equipment that are regulated by this code, or to cause any such work to be performed, shall first make application to the fire code official and obtain the required permit.
Each system installed, extended, modified, altered or removed from service shall require a separate permit. All permits shall become invalid if authorized work is not started within 6 months of issuance, or if there is any false statement or misrepresentation of facts in the application or on the plans on which the permit or approval was based.
Permit may be secured by mail or in person at the Jackson Township Fire Department located at 7383 Fulton Drive NW, Massillon, Ohio 44646 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Permit Required Documents
The Jackson Township Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau prefers electronic plan submittal but will accept hard copies also as specified below: Electronic plan submittal should be sent to astoller@jacksontwp.com
Automatic Sprinkler System: two (2) copies of design drawings and two (2) copies of hydraulic calculations.
Underground Fire Mains: two (2) copies of design drawings and a copy of underground Installer State of Ohio Certification License
Fire Alarm, Detection System: two (2) copies of design drawings and two (2) copies of cut sheets for all components including alarm panel.
Automatic Fire Suppression Systems: two (2) copies of design drawings.
Kitchen Fire Suppression Systems: two (2) copies of design drawings
Indoor Vehicle Display: Point of contact, Dates vehicle on display, make & model
Flammable Liquids above Ground Storage Tanks: Two (2) of site drawings with all required safety items shown as required by code.
Delayed or Controlled Egress locks/doors Systems: Two (2) of site drawings with all required safety items shown as required by code.
Carbon Dioxide Systems for beverage dispensing when exceeding 100 pounds: Two (2) of site drawings with all required safety items shown as required by code.
Commercial Cooking oil Storage when exceeding 60 gallons: Two (2) of site drawings with all required safety items shown as required by code.
All systems require cash or a check payment made payable to Jackson Township Trustees for each permit and/or inspection required. The fee schedule listed below is effective January 1, 2023.
